Ordered as you climb East → West
🟢 1) Donnell Vista (best quick wow stop)
📍 Just off the highway
Stop at Donnell Vista for a panoramic overlook of Donnell Reservoir.
Why it’s a must:
Zero hiking required
Huge granite canyon + bright blue water
One of the best “effortless” views on 108
👉 Perfect first stop to set the tone

🟡 2) Columns of the Giants (unique volcanic formation)
📍 Short walk (~1 mile)
Visit Columns of the Giants, a rare basalt column formation (like a mini Devil’s Postpile).
Why it’s special:
Totally different geology from the rest of the Sierra
Easy, quick walk
Feels unexpected and underrated
👉 Great stretch-your-legs stop

🔴 3) Sonora Pass Summit (main event)
📍 9,624 ft elevation
Drive to the top of Sonora Pass.
Why it’s unforgettable:
One of the highest Sierra passes you can drive
Wide-open alpine views (very different from Yosemite forests)
Feels rugged, remote, and wild
👉 Walk a bit along the ridges for even better views

🧭 Bonus (if you have extra time)
Leavitt Meadows → big open valley, great picnic spot
Kennedy Meadows → classic High Sierra access point

Quick game plan
Short on time: Donnell Vista + Sonora Pass
Have a few hours: Hit all three stops
Want a hike: Add a short wander at the pass or Columns
